It has been just over 4 months since my last Bodyguard post and my oh my have things changed since then! The Bodyguard Musical has been on tour since February and is now just about to take to the stage at their 9th city, Plymouth. They will be at the Theatre Royal from Tuesday 7th to Saturday 18th July. Grab your last minute tickets!
The tour kicked off in Southampton in February since leaving London's West End last August. I can honestly say that this is one of the most incredible shows i have ever seen! The show has had a few tweaks and changes since leaving London, but it is definitely a change for the better i'd say. From cast changes, scene changes and song changes, nothing has been done half heartedly for this tour.
What can i say about Alex? PHENOMENAL! She knows how much i adore her and she is so perfectly fitted to the role of Rachel. She is not in any way trying to be Whitney and she has said this herself, she is just trying to do her justice and she absolutely is. The songs are performed night after night and they still sound as good as they did the first time i heard them. Sometimes even more emotional which just makes me cry. There is such a younger feel to Rachel in the performance and her sassy side (as id like to say) really comes out. It really does take you on an emotional journey which is really felt by the audience.

Stuart is one of the loveliest guys i have ever met! He is so funny! His role of Frank Farmer is brilliant. He brings a much funnier side to the role than Tristan had done in the West End. (I do still love my Tristan!) He is still the sexy bodyguard protecting Rachel but there is just some little bits that really make you laugh, making his character even more lovable! And as for his karaoke...well i'll let you be the judge of that!
Melissa is Nikki Marron in the show and WOW WHAT A VOICE. That pretty much sums her up i think. The character is played so perfectly. She is heartbroken that Frank chooses Rachel over her and that really comes across on stage. So much passion in her voice, it melts my heart. Such a superstar!
I have now seen the show 7 times. IM OBSESSED! I have certainly seen far too many cities in the last few months, lets just say that! I kicked off the tour in Southampton and from there I went to Glasgow, Aberdeen (Thanks for that one Alex!), Newcastle and Wolverhampton! So i managed to squeeze in the first 5 cities that the show visited! It has honestly been the best few months of my life, as sad as that may sound but i don't even care. After Wolverhampton, it was time for Stoke-on-Trent but Alex was not performing at these shows as it was her time off. Next was Bradford and i was just not feeling the drive if I'm being honest. So city 6 and 7 were done and dusted and the next stop was Cardiff! I had had tickets booked for Cardiff since the tour first went on sale - so this one was actually a planned trip unlike all the other spontaneous last minute ones! I travelled down to Cardiff on Tuesday, the final week of the show. Of course the show was brilliant, so much so that i drove back down to Cardiff on the Friday to see Alex and then back AGAIN on the Saturday to see the final performance - i managed to get my hands on the LAST ticket! I was incredible, the energy was electric! I think Alex and Stuart are sick of seeing my face now :')
I am heading down the Plymouth - Saturday 11th July, i am so excited! I mean, its been a whole two weeks since my last show? Hahaha!
I have another 3 definite shows booked for this year. I am visiting Birmingham twice and then Oxford. I mean, this is how it stands now but god knows that will only change! I've met such lovely people on this tour and I would like to just say a massive thank you to all the cast and crew for this amazing tour, i am absolutely loving it. And of course to Alex for being her amazing little self and putting up with me :)
If it is coming to a city near you, i can not recommend it enough! You will not regret it, you will come out the theatre having a right little sing song!
Don't forget Alexandra's London JAZZ CAFE performances 18th/19th September - Get your tickets here! I personally can not WAIT to here some of her own music, its been too longggg! I shall see you there :)
